It's hard to talk about museums these days without discussing the effect the recession is having on them. Funding of all kinds is being cut, and many museums are laying off staff, postponing exhibitions and looking for new ways to raise money.
President-elect Obama and his wife, Michelle, sent their daughters off to the first day at their new school Monday morning in Washington, D.C. One of the people capturing the intimate moment was Time magazine photographer Callie Shell, who has been snapping photos of Obama since 2006.
There are more than 50 murals on the walls of the Justice Department headquarters building. Painted during the Great Depression, they aimed to show how law and justice could improve lives.
Six photographers spent a year cataloging their lives with daily photos taken at 7:15 p.m. The online yearlong gallery project, sametime715.com, concludes Dec. 31. The photos document the mundanity of life: yoga, playing pool, traveling and sunsets.
